Announcing InterMapper© 5.3
Major Features of InterMapper 5.3
- Better performance when handling maps with many hidden interfaces: The way we handle maps with thousands or tens of thousands of interfaces has been revamped to be much faster and crisper. These maps used to take many minutes to open; they should now be nearly instantaneous, and they should be much more responsive once open.
- More powerful interfaces window: The interfaces window is now modeless, which means that you may have multiple such windows open at the same time, and that you may still work with your maps while the windows are open. In addition, the windows are updated at each polling interval so that the data is now live, rather than static. You can now acknowledge and unacknowledge interfaces and can toggle "Allow Periodic Reprobe" behavior from the interfaces window.
- Many behind-the-scenes improvements in exporting to the InterMapper Database and InterMapper DataCenter: We have made many behind-the-scenes changes to the way InterMapper exports data to the InterMapper Database to improve performance and reliability, especially to prevent the act of exporting from affecting the primary monitoring function of InterMapper. We have also made changes to InterMapper DataCenter to improve performance and reliability.
- Localization: InterMapper is now available in languages other than English. Please check with Optrics to inquire about the languages supported.
Minor Features
- InterMapper RemoteAccess license pool: You may want a number of users to access an InterMapper server through InterMapper RemoteAccess, but not all users need to connect at once. You can now purchase InterMapper RemoteAccess "license pool" licenses and apply them to the InterMapper server. Unlicensed copies of InterMapper RemoteAccess can then connect to the server until all licenses are in use.
- Simplified hide/show/deletion of interfaces: InterMapper no longer distinguishes between hiding and deleting an interface on a map, removing the need to answer a potentially confusing question when you attempt to remove an interface. When you select and remove an interface, it is taken off the map, but it is still available in the Interfaces window. A contextual menu in the Interfaces window allows you to remove it permanently. (NB: Interfaces removed this way may come back at the next full reprobe of the parent device, just as they do now.)
- Integrated wireless probes: The wireless probe bundle is no longer a separate purchase. All wireless probes are now part of the built-in bundle, and the probes are available for inspection, modification, and use as examples for your own probes. (If you currently have a wireless license, 5.3 will combine your wired and wireless license counts into a single count to apply to all devices regardless of family.)
- InterMapper DataCenter has a new look.
- Connected client controls: The Remote Server panel of the Server Settings dialog now allows an admin user to see a list of connected clients and to disconnect specific clients if necessary.
- Minor Printing features
- Status windows, notifiers, and interfaces windows are now printable
- Map, device, notifier, ad chart lists are now printable
- Server logs are printable
- Minor Probe Features
- WMI CPU Utilization probe now computes and alerts on average CPUas well

InterMapper Remote Access
Are you at your desk 24/7?
Of course not! Most network managers travel about – from one server room to another, across the office park and back, to remote offices in other cities, and after a good day, they go home at night. Unfortunately, network problems don't wait until technicians are at their desk with network management applications and diagnostic tools within easy reach.
Extend your reach with InterMapper RemoteAccess™, an optional add-on that gives you and your staff access to maps, submaps, and configuration options from any connected location.
- Complete InterMapper Access
- View and create maps
- Open reports and status windows
- Drill-down to sub-maps
- Configure InterMapper servers
- Acknowledge alarms
InterMapper Wireless Probe Pack
Monitor your fixed wireless gear
The InterMapper Wireless Probe Pack adds information about wireless gear to InterMapper maps and reports. You'll monitor CPE, access points, and backhauls along with servers, routers, hubs, switches, WAN and LAN links.
InterMapper scales across any wired and wireless network. Your installation easily grows as you add subscribers, access points, and equipment. By tracking critical gear status on a map, you'll know just where to go to make repairs (which radio and which tower) – and what repairs are needed.
Customers report InterMapper and the InterMapper Wireless Probe Pack yields return on investment by:
- reducing number of support calls and increasing customer satisfaction
- decreasing network downtime and associated lost business
- eliminating unneeded trips to remote or off-site locations
- increasing service levels without increasing headcount
